Suffering

Suffering

haiti stamp

Its bright colors made it look so beautiful yet it was obviously distressed. The street kids had broken its wing using a rudimentary slingshot and by the time I got to them, they had struck the poor bird several more times. As I approached it, they shouted at me to watch out for its powerful beak. I gently picked it up, cradled it in my hands, and swiftly snapped its neck. Their look of complete awe turned to huge grins as I handed them their dinner, still twitching. I resumed my daily run. Its nightmare had ended, theirs had not.
