Speed Warp

Speed Warp

laos stamp

After a week-long expedition paddling down the Nam Tha and sleeping in the jungle, it seemed that my entire state of being had slowed down to the pace of the water. So I can’t begin to describe the shock of having to finish the journey in a notorious Mekong speedboat. These colourful death traps are designed to transport, or maybe teleport, up to six human lives packed like sardines in a tiny aerodynamic contraption at breakneck speed. And so for 6 adrenaline-packed hours, the river turned into a racetrack scattered with protruding rocks, floating logs, and fishermen frozen in motion.
