Paranoia

Paranoia

srilanka stamp

What were they hiding behind all these “closed” roads? Minesweepers and bullet-ridden ruins lined the way as I innocently cycled past my 50th – give or take a dozen – military blockade that day. The awestricken soldiers, once more, not quite sure how to react to such an outlandish sight. I had been turned back a few times and searched twice already. The mood was tense: Street corners and bridges were strategically placed under army control, foreigners were considered as potential spies and local Tamils as potential threats. Yet the war was over, well, that was the official line at least.
